Last night I attended a webinar about PPV advertising and picked up some interesting insight on PPV. I didn’t like PPV before the webinar and still don’t like it, but if it helps generate income I’ll pretend to like it.

I came across several products that claim to boost page rank with Wikipedia links. Then I thought to myself, aren’t all links on Wikipedia ‘nofollow’ links? A ‘nofollow’ link informs some search engines that the link should not influence search engine ranking. Unless those products are teaching black hat methods, you aren’t walking down the free page rank boost aisle. Matt Cutts posted a video about ‘nofollow’ links and it certainly suggests that Wiki links won’t boost your search engine page ranking. However, I have read that if you’re a trusted editor on Wikipedia the ‘nofollow’ tags can be removed. Ding ding ding! So, those products were telling the truth. Yes, I admit it is possible, but the amount of work required to become a trusted editor is just silly.

A website without traffic is just lame and a waste of effort. When you have finished your masterpiece you need an audience. Getting the desired amount of audience can be tricky and can take a bit of time. If you already have several websites with large amounts of traffic, then this task is piece of cake for you but for the rest of us it can be a frustrating thing. Paid advertisement is always an option, however that is not an option suitable at all times. Lets say you started a website, you don’t have much content yet and you go out and spend a crap load of money advertising. I for one think it’s best to not pay for advertisement until your content is sufficient and you know users will be returning. After 4 painstaking days, I’ve finally managed to put together my first revenue generating website. This site was suppose to be a one day job but it took longer than anticipated due to some unforeseen bad coding on the script. Anyway, this website is an image hosting site. The idea is definitely not unique, nor does the site have any kind of niche. So, why did I choose an image hosting site? Simply because it’s an easy project, easy to promote and practically maintenance free.
